In October 2020 we've added the brand Columbia to our range. And today we present you their new spring-summer collection. We think that Columbia Sportswear makes extremely cool styles that perfectly master the balancing act between nature explorer and urban fashion. Awesome styles, produced fairly and sustainably and on top of that there is still something for everyone. Convince yourself!
How Columbia began
The small family business was founded in Portland in 1937 by Gert Boyle (* 2019, former chairwoman). All that after she and her family fled because of the political situation in Germany. The company began as Columbia Hat Company, with Gert's father as managing director. Gert took over the business after a while with her husband. When he passed away, she continued to run the company on her own. Over the years, more products were added to the outdoor range and the small company has developed into a global retailer for outdoor clothing. Here is a little bit of their history:
How sustainable is Columbia?
Columbia cares to maintain the places in which their customers have outdoor adventures. The brand has brought other partners (e.g. Planet Water, The Ocean Foundation and UK National Parks) on board, in order to have a greater influence on what is permitted in our outdoor sports facilities and what must be protected. In addition, their production is ethically correct and sustainable.
One of the many sustainability approaches is the "responsible down standard". This determines how down clothing is made at Columbia and therefore ensures that animal welfare is a top priority and that down and feathers are not wasted. It also states that the animals are not injured and may lead a dignified life without suffering from any anxiety, fear or distress.
