Patagonia is known for its use of tech materials that dry quickly, are breathable and incredibly light. When touring or splitboarding in the backcountry, it's not only your performance that counts, but also your clothing. Good mid and base layers are therefore as important as breathable and water-repellent outerwear.
Many mountain lovers switched to touring and splitboarding this season to enjoy nature and freeriding independent of lift. To keep you as warm and dry as possible when touring, Patagonia has launched the new R1 Air Fleece.
The new R1 Air
R1 Air is a light, well breathing, quick-drying, technical fleece specially designed for strenuous activities in cold weather. The fleece has been designed for you as you don't have to mind cold weather anymore and you can be active in all weather conditions.
The fleece consists of hollow fibres with durable HeiQ® odour inhibitor in the fabric and comes with a unique zigzag structure that quickly absorbs moisture, traps air and is highly breathable. The structure provides a perfect balance between protection from the cold and breathability without adding weight. The HeiQ® odour inhibitor allows you to wear the fleece more often without having to wash it directly. Furthermore, the products are designed to ensure that the shoulder seams are staggered and offer maximum comfort under rucksack straps.
Patagonia, would not be Patagonia if the materials used were not 100% sustainable. All materials used in the R1 Air are also made from 100% recycled polyester. Of course only bluesign™ certified material was used in the production and all products are Fair Trade certified.
R1 as the perfect Mid-Layer
R1 is the perfect middle layer between the base layer and outer layer and offers a perfect balance between breathability and protection against the cold. But why is layering so essential? Layering has many advantages on cold and active days because the different layers insulate the warmth and trap the air so that you are optimally protected. Outer layers ensure that wind and water are directly repelled. The base and middle layers provide breathability, are moisture-absorbing and quick-drying. So you are completely protected from wind, water and cold from the skin to the outer layer.

The R1 Air is ideal as a mid-layer for strenuous activities in the backcountry. Of course, you can't go without the right outerwear to prepare perfectly for cold days in the snow.
