Preparation is everything
To get your snowboard / ski ready for slushy spring conditions, with wet and soft snow, there are a few things you should take care about.
- Wax-Check: Use the right wax for warmer temperatures in spring. A wax with a lower melting temperature is the go-to to keep on shredding with high performance. Further information on perfect waxing can be found here.
- Binding-Setup: If you usually have a centered binding setting, you should move it back a bit in spring to to get a better floating effect in the soft snow. This also gives you better control over your board & you can more easily adapt to bumps. Our shop staff will be happy to help you.
- Consider a structured sanding: To ensure optimal grip in slushy conditions & that the snow doesn´t stop you, upgrade your board/ski with a structured sanding. Our Service Your Ride Team gets it done for you.
- Proper equipment: For slushy conditions, we recommend a softer binding and a higher board flexibility. So you get a better feeling for your board and you can handle it easier. Just rent the perfect board from our crew at Rent Your Ride.

What to wear for spring snowboarding
Warm and sunny days are perfect for shredding in the park or on the slopes. If the jacket gets too warm, casual snowboard hoodies are used.
Layering is Key
Base Layer: Start with a light, moisture-wicking base layer that keeps sweat away from your skin. Merino wool or synthetic fabrics work best. You want something breathable to prevent overheating.
Mid Layer: Opt for a lighter mid-layer than you would in the winter. A thin fleece or a breathable, lightweight synthetic jacket provides enough warmth for cool mornings without overheating you by midday.
Outer Layer: A waterproof and breathable shell is essential. Look for jackets and pants with ample venting options, such as underarm zips and thigh vents, to allow for airflow and adjust your temperature as the day warms up. A great choice for milder weather conditions is to wear a shred hoodie, specifically crafted for the nuances of warmer days on the mountains. These hoodies offer a combination of style, comfort, and functionality.
Snow Pants and Jackets
Choose snow pants and jackets that are specifically designed for spring conditions. Look for features like:
- Ventilation: Adjustable vents can help regulate your body temperature.
- Water Resistance: Spring snow can be wet and slushy, so water-resistant fabrics are a must.
- Lightweight: You’ll want gear that’s less bulky than winter wear, allowing for greater mobility and comfort.
Accessories for Spring Shred
- Gloves: Opt for lighter gloves or mittens with breathable, waterproof features to keep your hands dry without overheating.
- Socks: Stick with moisture-wicking socks that are not too thick to ensure your feet stay dry and comfortable.
- Goggles: Choose goggles with lenses suitable for bright conditions to protect your eyes from the glaring sun and enhance visibility.
- Sun Protection: Don’t forget to apply sunscreen! The sun's rays can be surprisingly strong, especially when reflected off the snow. Lip balm with SPF is also a good idea.
