100% Climate Neutral Products
Nitro collaborated with ClimatePartner to measure and investigate the emissions created during a full lifecycle of Nitro Snowboards. With this knowledge, the company is ready to take all necessary steps in reducing the carbon emissions through valuable carbon offsetting of 100% of the emissions generated during production. To do so, Nitro invests into climate change projects and - solutions.
Together, Nitro and ClimatePartner aim to discover new ways of reducing carbon footprints in the production of snowboards and making the product lifecycle more environmentally-friendly and sustainable. In short: Reducing, rethinking and compensating for CO2 emissions, to protect nature, so we can keep doing what we all love: Snowboarding.
Ressource-saving Materials
Do you enjoy forest runs as much as we do? We thought so! Nitro is only sourcing the wood for its cores from well-managed forests. This entitles the company to polish itself with the 100% FSC™ Certified label on all snowboards. What is represented by the core, transfers all the way to the topsheet finishes: Nitro uses water-based colours on more than 70% of their topsheets and on more than 30% of their bases.15% of Nitro's snowboards bases do not even rely on any additional colouring.
Also, 70% of Nitro's snowboard surfaces stay uncoated or are coated with solvent-free lacquer with a Volatile Organic Compound Rating of VOC:0. Looking at Nitro's bases, the company can proudly say that more than 85% of the bases are made from recycled raw materials.

Environmentally-friendly Production
That's what we call innovation! At the Nitro factory, the presses are not heated with oil or electricity, but with water. The company preserves ressources in their production process by using a closed water cycle with an integrated filter system for their grinding system. Additionally, Nitro is starting to use thinner topsheets than comparable brands to reduce the use of raw materials as well as the weight. All of this is topped off by the 700KW solar system of the Nitro snowboard factory's roof, providing enough energy for the production, the office spaces, and the employee appartements.
