Future Queens 2023

Anna Gasser's search for the future queens of snowboarding went into its second round. Find out how the four-day session at Absolut Park Flachauwinkl went and who came around.

Anna Gasser brought together the best up-and-coming female snowboarders worldwide for the second time. That is her mission and the Future Queens Session 2023 theme: "Bringing the best upcoming female riders together" - simple as that! In cooperation with Red Bull and with the tireless support of Clemens Millauer and Patrick Cinca - who worked behind the scenes as filmers & skidoo shuttle drivers, among other things - this affair of the heart was put into practice for the second time in a row.

The four-day programme had a weather-induced different focus for each day (Jump Day, Rail Day & Pipe Day) and was unexpectedly topped off with powder day. You can see what this means for a group of passionate snowboarders in the recap video.

Although the team spirit among the participants is obvious at first glance, competition is a must for such an event. That's why the Queen of the Week, the Banger of the Week and the Style Queen were chosen on the last evening, which was certainly not an easy decision for everyone involved. After all, we are writing about the Future Queens 2023, some of the most promising female snowboarders in the world - all just between 12 and 20 years old. Taking part this year were:

  • Kristina Holzfeind, Hanna Karrer & Selin Lakatha from Austria.
  • Lisa Francesia-Boirai & Fanny Piantanida Chiesa from Italy
  • Emeraude Maheux, nicknamed MoMo, from Canada and Kamilla Kozuback with both Canadian and Hungarian roots
  • Laura Záveská from the Czech Republic
  • Eseniya Stepanova from Russia
  • Sky Remans, the youngest participant aged 12, from Belgium
  • & Cool Wakushima from New Zealand

Cool joined the Future Queens spontaneously because her compatriot Lucia Georgalli had to drop out. With her 20 years, she was not only the oldest participant, but with her large repertoire of tricks and her experience, she is already a "Queen of the Present", who was thus able to act as a role model, especially for the younger Future Queens.

But who won the top spots of the week? The Future Queens decided among themselves with an anonymous vote. The result was two Queens of the Week, as Eseniya Stepanova & Cool Wakushima shared the title. Fanny Piantanida Chiesa was crowned Style Queen and Selin Lakatha provided the Banger of the Week with her boardslide on the Challenge Rail (to be seen in the outro of the recap vid!). Hanna Karrer also showed that Anna Gasser's Future Queens are not only characterised by style and big tricks but also simply by creating good vibes wherever they go. After injuring her shoulder early on while FollowCam filming, she spent the remaining days handing out chocolate and lifting the spirits of her fellow snowboarders.

This makes us want to come back for the next winter season (and for chocolate). We are eagerly awaiting news from the Future Queens 2023 camp and can hardly wait for a new edition!
